About the Role
The Visitor Information Counsellor is the important link between the visitor and tourism industry product and service providers. The main activities of a Visitor Information Counsellor include identifying visitor needs, offering information and selling tourism products and services. A Visitor Information Counsellor is an ambassador to tourism in our province – an extremely important role. Visitor Information Counsellors have a direct impact on the visitor’s impression of BC, encouraging the purchase of tourism products and services, longer stays and travel in all regions of the Province.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Approach, greet and welcome visitors/community members to North Vancouver with enthusiasm.
Shifts will be both at the North Vancouver Visitor Centre (at The Quay) and roaming through North Vancouver (roaming consists of both walking and biking shifts).
Promote the North Shore tourism products, including attractions, restaurants, events, and local businesses, that will result in visitors extending their stay in North Vancouver and/or the Lower Mainland.
Answer inquiries in person, on the phone, by email, and occasionally by mail.
Assist with planning and booking sightseeing activities.
Identify the interests of visitors and provide personalized recommendations.
Acquire a sound knowledge of British Columbia’s different regions, publications, and programs.
Work with various stakeholders in the community to ensure their goals and objectives are successful.
Generate business results by providing exceptional customer service to complete retail sales of maps, apparel, and merchandise.
Track and record retail sales transactions accurately.
Perform clerical tasks such as answering emails, data, and stat entry, creating documents using Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
Ensure accurate tracking of visitor statistics.
Conducting visitor surveys
Contribute to the weekly team newsletter.
Keep the event calendar up-to-date, including local events and other activities relevant to visitors
Ensure brochures and informational materials are updated and available to visitors.
Maintain cleanliness and organization
Requirements
The successful applicants must possess previous customer service and sales experience.
Have a solid knowledge of the local area and a strong desire to market the City of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and the District of North Vancouver to travellers from around the world.
Work well in a team setting under pressure and demonstrate initiative.
Strong communication skills.
Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
This job is a part of the Canada Summer Jobs Grant and is contingent on funding secured. To qualify applicants must be Canadian Citizens and be eligible to work.
